Hair fall is one of the most common conditions that people tend to suffer from. For the most part, it can be quite mild, with just a few noticeable strands snagging on one's hairbrush, or clumping over a shower drain after a bath. However, the condition can also be quite severe, where the hair can thin out so much that one's scalp is practically visible, or even worse, where the hair fall results in a permanent hair loss.
Most medical professionals tend to distinguish between hair fall that occurs from breakage along the hair shaft and hair fall that happens because of a specific medical condition or treatment.
So how exactly does hair fall happen and what can one do to alleviate or avoid it?

The old saying “prevention is better than cure” applies whenever people talk about hair fall. Proper care of one's hair and scalp – as well as one's health in general – is the key when it comes to preventing hair fall.
When considering a hair care regimen, it is important to take note of the following:
- 1

Wash your hair right
Regular hair washing can reduce product build-up that could weaken your hair at its roots. However, it's also important to make sure that the way you're washing your hair doesn't cause hair fall. Your hair is at its weakest point when wet or damp. Since hair is very fragile, an abrasive washing can cause breakage of your hair or damage on your scalp. Try not to scrub the scalp with your fingernails, rather gently lather using the balls of your fingers to massage the scalp and increase circulation. Massage scalp and rinse well from roots to ends. Once you are done, gently dry the hair using short patting movements to prevent damage to the hair shaft.
